Personal Objectives

This reflection aims to give a clearer pathway regarding the objectives I need to accomplish for my next academic step and how important they are in order of priority. Since I have decided that I would like to pursue a Master's degree in International Business Management once I graduate, I would like to make sure that the objectives I acquire will be the most relevant to my International Business master's degree.

The first objective that I consider on the top of my priorities would be Academic literacy. I believe this is the most crucial personal objective in my field as a multilingual individual in an international business setting. Being able to effectively communicate in English by using the language accurately to convey ideas and manage different teams is a crucial skill to have. Even though I am proficient in every-day English, I believe there is always room for improvement, especially in a setting in which I have no prior experience , such as business.

The second area of improvement would be critical self-awareness and personal literacy. Even though I have previous experience in team-working like the time I was working  as a TA or as a carer in teams of three to six people, this experience has shown me that I lack confidence and resources in conflict resolution. This is crucial when working with people from very different backgrounds, bearing  in mind cultural differences and the tension that language-barrier can bring.

Following on the list, I would like to improve my digital and information literacy skills. The reason why I think this is an important objective is because of the rising usage of technology in modern society. All over the world, companies have mostly digitised the way they operate. In business, the growth mindset is essential thus keeping up with modern technologies has also become more and more relevant.

Next, I believe sustainability is a major topic in the business setting in today's context. Companies are being more and more aware of the long term impact they can have on the environment, therefore they are always searching for ways to be more sustainable. Reflecting on my lack of knowledge in the matter, I believe there is a substantial improvement to be made.

Finally, even though I am not planning on becoming a full time researcher, I believe that having research literacy is also relevant. In the ever changing world of business, there is always research to be made and improvement to be done which can make a difference between success and failure.
